Sunday's Lesson - The Lord's Way For Providing for the Poor and Needy

Beehives, your challenge/assignment for this week is to find someone in the class who might have a spiritual or temporal need and help meet that need.

Mia Maids and Laurels are encouraged to follow President Monson's counsel to "pray for the inspiration to know of the needs of those around us, and then go forward and provide assistance."

Individual Worth #3 is a great focus for this month!

Sunday's Lesson: WORK!

We learned about the importance of work. It's an important gospel principal and critical to Heavenly Father's plan for happiness. The girls were challenged to find a way to work and show a great attitude about it --even in the mundane. They were also challenged to work on something this week that will improve their talents.

Young women might consider how they will live by what they have learned Sunday. For example, they could:
  • Help more with household chores, get a part-time job, or volunteer with a local service organization.
  • Complete one or more of the following in Personal Progress: Knowledge value project 1, Choice and Accountability value project 5.

Excellence

Young Women in Excellence was a wonderful evening where the girls of the Ten Mile Ward displayed their Personal Progress accomplishments from this past year. The girls sang and celebrated after Sister Matson shared her personal experiences working with dairy cows growing up. Our time is precious and using it wisely by avoiding the things of the world less we can spend more time on improving through the values of the YW program. The Bishop counseled the girls to not be by-standers but carry on and be an active example for good and to stand strong. By standing in Holy Places and being not moved, we will draw closer to the Savior. Personal Progress will prepare us to enter the temple of our God. This was a great evening celebrating excellence and progress.

Sunday's Lesson: Challenges and Problems

This week's lesson is "How Can I Find Solutions to My Challenges and Problems". This week's study can include the following quotes and talks to get you thinking:

From President Monson:

“My dear sisters, your Heavenly Father loves you—each of you. That love never changes. It is not influenced by your appearance, by your possessions, or by the amount of money you have in your bank account. It is not changed by your talents and abilities. It is simply there. It is there for you when you are sad or happy, discouraged or hopeful. God’s love is there for you whether or not you feel you deserve love. It is simply always there” (“We Never Walk Alone,Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2013)

President Uchtdorf:
“Forget not to be patient with yourself,” “Forget not to be happy now,” and “Forget not that the Lord loves you.”

This week: All young women, think of the challenges you have in your life and then search the October 2013 conference talks (in the November Ensign or online) and find a talk that will help you with a challenge. Highlight and/or record what you learned in your journal.

Sunday's Lesson

Sister Case taught us that the Word of Wisdom is as much about what we should do than what we shouldn't. What are some ways you are working to be just a little healthier this week? Post your answer and let us know how it's going!

This week's Challenge

Today our lessons were on How Can I Be More Christlike in my Service to Others? The Laurels heard a story about Sister Matson's friend, Donna. They were challenged to remember a time that service was rendered to them or to their families and then return that service to someone else, in a "pay it forward" fashion.

The Mia Maids were challenged to render service this week to someone outside your comfort circle to give service to.

Beehives were challenged to read President Uchtdorf's talk and return to class next week with their favorite part. http://www.lds.org/general-conference/2010/04/you-are-my-hands . (Laurels and Mia Maids might like to read this as well!!)

In addition to the challenge activities his week all of the YW have two opportunities to render service:

Wednesday: For mutual activity, the youth will be sponsoring the games and activities at the ward Harvest social. The Laurels will be in charge of the bean bag toss, the Mia Maids will be organizing the ring toss and the donut eating contest and the Beehives are in charge of pumpkin bowling! Come at 6:30 p.m. Bring a friend!

Saturday: The stake secret service activity begins at 9:00 a.m. The girls should report to the church building at 9:00 a.m. and plan to stay as long as they can. If you need a ride, call Sister Ponder. Donuts and chocolate milk provided by Sister Ponder. Email, call or text Sister Ponder and let her know your favorite type of donut! Bring a friend!!

Happy Sweet Sixteen, Jessica. We are thinking of you today. So glad to have you in the Laurel Class.

This Sunday!

How can I be more Christlike in my service to others?

Jesus Christ set the perfect example of how to love and serve those around Him. At baptism, we promise to serve others.
We can serve others as the Savior did in many ways, such as helping family members, sharing the gospel with others, and
performing simple, everyday acts of kindness.

Hey Ladies! Here is the sheet music for the Guardians of Virtue song we will be singing in Sacrament meeting on November 24th. Enjoy practicing! I can't believe how great you all sounded in just the first ten minutes of practicing this song! Thanks Sister Case and Sister Beagley!

Our YW Mini-MTC

Yesterday our class discussed the attributes of Jesus Christ. Each group of two was assigned an attribute from Preach My Gospel such as Virtue, Obedience, Diligence, Faith, Hope, etc. They studied PMG and the assigned scriptures and shared the parts they read with their partner. Then, at the end of class, presented what they discovered to the rest of the combined class group. Each young woman was challenged to go home and make that attribute (or another they chose) a goal in their personal quest to become more like the Savior.

These are a few of our favorite.....General Conference Quotes!

The Young Women were challenged to bring their favorite conference quote to class today. Everyone agreed President Uchtdorf's quote was one of our favorites:

"Doubt your doubts before you doubt your faith."

Here are a few more:

"Prayers are the passport to peace."  --- Thomas S Monson

"Be not afraid, only believe." -- Boyd K Packer

"As you lose your life in the service of Father in Heaven’s children,Satan’s temptations lose power in your life.   --  Richard G Scott

"Tears are alright. They are the price we pay for love, care and compassion in the world." -- Jeffrey R. Holland.

“Don’t forget to look up.” --  Elder Adrián Ochoa

"Women of God can never be like women of the world. The world has enough women who are tough; we need women who are tender. There are enough women who are coarse; we need women who are kind. There are enough women who are rude; we need women who are refined. We have enough women of fame and fortune; we need more women of faith."

What's your favorite conference quote? Add it to the comments below!

DI Service was FUN!

Wednesday night we all piled into vans after opening exercises at the chapel and headed down Fairview for Deseret Industries. We were divided into groups and put to work.

Some youth worked on the sales floor organizing and others worked sorting and hanging clothing in the back. It was a lot of fun.

The clothes were sorted. Some items were put on the sales floor for purchase. Others were placed in shipping boxes to be shipped all across the world.

We learned that the average time for someone to stay in a refugee camp is 15 years and that everything they own comes from donations.
